Stock Average Formula
The formula of the stock average is:
SA = TSP / TNS
- SA = Stock Average
- TSP = Total stock price
- TNS = Total number of shares
How to calculate the stock average?
- Determine the number of shares(units) at each price.
- Multiply the number of shares by the price for each share (T1) = (units * price) = U1 * P1
- Calculate Total Amounts (T) = T1 + T2
- Total number of shares = U1 + U2
- Divide the total cost by the total number of shares to calculate the stock average = (T1 + T2) / (U1 + U2)
Solved Example
Example:-if 50 shares of stock A cost $12 each and 65 shares of stock B cost $33 each, then calculate the average price per share
First Purchase Amount (T1) = unit1 * price1 = 50 * $12 = $600
Second Purchase Amount(T1) = unit2 * price2 = 65 * $33 = $2145
Total Units = unit1 + unit2 = 50 + 65 = 115
Toal Amount = T1 + T2 = $600 + $2145 = $2745
Averagr price per share = Total Amount / Total units = $2745 / 115 = $23.87
